Summary

Clinical Paediatric Endocrinology is established as the leading international work of reference in the field, covering childhood endocrine disorders, their diagnosis and treatment. The boundaries of this branch of paediatrics are wide and difficult to define, but a comprehensive approach is taken here: the book covers the disorders of classic hormones as well as those of growth factors and regulatory peptides and neuroendocrinology. The use of diagnostic testing and imaging is well covered. The clinical descriptions are well supported by photographs, while the sections on investigation and management are extensive. The entire book has been completely restructured and revised. In the 3rd edition there were 40 chapters. While the extent of the coverage remains as wide, these subjects are now discussed in 27 more integrated chapters, which combine the the pathology with the relevant science and physiology. In addition to the classic chapters a new chapter titled evidence-based paediatric endocrinology precedes the closing reference section on tests and normal values. This new edition is more concise and accessible. Professor Brook continues to bring to the subject the authority he has to previous editions.
