"Over the past decade, working out has become a national phenomenon as the country moves towards healthy, natural eating, new diets and workout routings, and gyms populating all over. With the increase in exercising, there is a similar rise in people working out incorrectly, leading to injuries. Principles of Athletic Training: A Competency-Based Approach sets out to teach the reader how to train properly, relating to preventing injury and maximizing efficiency. This book in particular sets out the explain in as much detail as possible why certain exercises are performed as a way to educate a student in their path to a career in athletic training. All competencies are specifically covered, and by the end of the book, the reader should be far more competent in their daily activities as an athletic trainer—now with an understanding of why they do what they do."

Principles of Athletic Training: A Competency-Based Approach is designed to be used by athletic trainers in courses concerned with the scientific, evidence-based and clinical foundations of athletic training and sports medicine. The text leads the student from general foundations to specific concepts relative to injury prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation. As the student progresses from beginning to end, he or she will understand the complexities of the profession of athletic training. An over-arching goal of the text is to make certain that each and every one of the educational competencies identified by the Education Council is specifically covered. After using this text the student should be able to apply the appropriate techniques and concepts in the day-to-day performance of his or her job as an athletic trainer.
